This website provides updates and information on the search for 10th chancellor at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Current Chancellor Lendley Black has served since 2010 and announced his retirement in November 2021. University of Minnesota System President Joan Gabel announced the search committee membership and her intentions to begin a national search for his successor.
Search Update, May 2022
Since the announcement of a competitive, national search for UMD’s next chancellor in November 2021, the UMD campus community and University System leaders thoughtfully and earnestly engaged in a shared effort to select UMD’s next leader. As difficult as it is to announce, and in light of the robust enthusiasm and commitment across this entire search process, unfortunately, the recent search process did not yield UMD’s next chancellor.
President Joan Gabel invites your nominations for the position of UMD interim chancellor to lead the campus for a two-year term. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, June 3, 2022. Individuals nominated, and others who may be interested, will be asked to formally apply (via cover letter and resume) by June 15th to the Office of the President, attention Kate Stuckert ([email protected]).
Reporting to the President of the University of Minnesota System, the Chancellor will lead the University of Minnesota Duluth in advancing its contributions to fulfilling the mission of the University of Minnesota.
